We specialize in helping fly anglers become proficient in all techniques used to catch steelhead - both spey & single handed fly rods. And if you are a beginner, we guarantee to shorten your learning curve! If you are just starting to fly fish or you are a hardcore fly fishing fanatic, Western Waters Guide Service will provide you with an unforgettable fishing experience. Steelhead are sometimes referred to as the fish of a thousand casts, however a great man (Henry David Thoreau) eloquently wrote: "Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not the fish they are after". He surely must have visited beautiful Northern California and Oregon.
Guided steelhead trips take place from September through February. We start fly fishing for steelhead in the Willow Creek area in the fall months and then move to the Lewiston area for the winter months. Being on the water almost every day, you can expect us to take you where the fishing is best.
A Day of Fly Fishing for Steelhead
A day of guided steelhead fishing begins early in the morning before the sun rises. Your guide will launch the drift boat in the dark so that you can take advantage of the low light conditions in the morning hours. This is one of the best times of the day to catch a steelhead, when the river is cool and the fish are rested. You will start the morning off fly fishing with indicators and when we come to a run that needs to be swung, we will get out of the boat and fish from shore. After a full day of fly fishing your guide will have you back to your car or hotel around 5 p.m.
